Barbecue, American style in Chennai

Chennai can now get set to barbecue in true American style. Weber, an company that claims to have given America its Backyard Barbecue lifestyle is now in India, and recently launched its range of barbecue grills in Chennai.

Speaking at the launch, Mike J. Kempster, Executive Vice President of Weber said that they were trying to break sever misconceptions about barbecues in India. “It’s a myth that barbecues are only suited for non-vegetarian cooking, that it’s a messy affair and it isn’t suited for Indian weather” informed Kempster, “and working on breaking down these myths” he added.

Weber has tied up with the Great Indian Leisure and Lifestyle Company to promote grills and barbecues in the country. As of now the grills are available in over 100 retail outlets spanning 13 cities.

Two kinds of grills are available- one that works on charcoal( and boasts of charcoal made of coconut shell that is eco-friendly) and the other that works on gas. Starting at Rs 7999 for the basic charcoal grill, prices go up to almost 1,35,000 for the gas grills.

Also present at the launch was CEO of The Great Indian Leisure company, Shiva Kumar who said that their company’s objective was to introduce the true barbecue experience of healthy and wholesome food to a much larger audience in India. Weber Grills are available at Poppat Jamal, Currimbhoys and Elements.
